Green Circuits: Key Contributor in NASA Nanosatellite Development Project

World-Class Turnkey PCB Assembly and Production

Green Circuits (GC) has played a key role in the development of many groundbreaking products but NASA’s Nanosatellite program is one that we are really proud of.

In 2013, GC helped build a unique PCB assembly for NASA Ames Research Center. The product was known as TechEDSat-X and led to the development of a cubic-shaped micro satellite that is powered by solar cell panels. This month, two of these nanosatellites known as CubeSats will be strapped to an Atlas V rocket which is bound for the International Space Station. Their mission is to demonstrate how well swarms of similar satellites can communicate and network with each other with minimal instruction from Earth.

Scientists plan to use these nanosatellites for a variety of purposes including studying space weather that can disrupt communication systems and scanning for asteroids for space mining expeditions. NASA Ames scientists are also exploring how to deploy CubeSats to hunt for killer asteroids and deflect them before they hurtle toward Earth.

No bigger than a Rubik’s cube, these nanosatellites are easier and less expensive to manufacture and launch than previous models.

The project was a joint effort by NASA Ames Research Center and San Jose State University (SJSU). Our Vice President at GC is a SJSU alumnus and was more than happy to help out on this joint venture to create a revolutionary product. With the electronic manufacturing expertise of our skilled team and depth of experience in all aspects of PCB assembly, development, production, this was a truly exciting and fulfilling project for us.
